Do Not Try This At Home

As I drove to Starbucks this morning, I head the first radio add for the NAR’s latest “Public Awareness Campaign” (chronicled somewhat here last week).
In the ad, they mention the new website, Housing Market Facts.
I went there last week, and promptly clicked off when the young lady walked out onto my screen and began rambling.
That is SO incredibly annoying.

I also hate the “takes forever to load” full-screen Flash site. 1998 called, they want their failed “good ideas” back.
LOL I had to go look. The page loaded up and nothing happened. After about a minute she walked out on the bottom left and said “thanks for visiting housing market stats dot com”…
… and then promptly froze up with her mouth open in mid word.
She does not talk that long, and you can turn her off. Either way, she just stands there and turns her smile off and on. Weird.
However, criticisms of the site aside, NAR is making an attempt to communicate with the consumer. My guess if NAR did nothing, many members would complain about that.
Actually a fair amount of the information on the site isn’t bad. It is a much better attempt than last years shambles of “it’s a great time to buy, or sell, for the love of god just have a transaction” spiel.
However it is those silly little things like animations starting up and talking that simply brand the entire thing as amatuerish.
There are hundreds of bright, opinionated and verbal bloggers out here on the RE.net. I don’t expect NAR to answer to us, but aren’t we the perfect focus group to bounce some of this stuff off before they push the $20 million “spend”
button?
Just a thought.
We’re a fad, Mr. Kay. Haven’t you heard?
